SpookTober at Ellz Readz (2)

In the spirit of Halloween, each Sunday I will do an new post on the things that go bump in the night. So this weeks SpookTober feature will be about Ghosts!

Wikipedia describes ghosts as  the disembodied spirit or soul of a deceased person,[1] although in popular usage the term refers only to the apparition of such a person.[2] Often described as immaterial and partly transparent, ghosts are reported to haunt particular locations or people that they were associated with in life or at time of death.

Ghosts on the BOOb tube...
When thinkin of ghosts on TV, The Ghost Whisperer comes to mind.  I  used to watch the show frequently, but then it got kind of wierd.  I catch an episode here or there but I'd rather read.  Here are some other ghostly shows to keep you up at night:  Ghost Hunters on the SciFi Channel, Most Haunted on the Travel Channel, Medium on NBC and A Haunting on Discovery.

Ghosts on the BIG screen...
These movies are sure to scare:
1. Candyman (1992)
2. Poltergeist (1982) -this one really creeps me out
3. The Eye (2002)
4. The Sixth Sense (1999)
5. Dark Water (2005)
Some of these titles are old, but worth the rental fee!

Ghosts in BOOks...
1. Ruined by Paula Morris
2. Ghost Girl by Tonya Hurley
3. Dead Men's Boots by Mike Carey
4. Give Up The Ghost by Megan Crewe
5. Ghost Huntress Book 1 by Marley Gibson

Here is a collection of ghost jokes for you to share with some little BOOgers.

Q: What kind of mistakes do spooks make?
A: Boo boos.

Q: Where do ghosts go on vacation?
A: The Eerie canal, Lake Eerie ! or Mali-Boo

Q: Where do ghosts buy their food?
A: At the ghost-ery store.

Q: What's a ghosts favorite fruit?
A: Booberries.

Q: What kind of street does a ghost like best ?
A: A dead end !

Q: What are little ghosts dressed in when it rains ?
A: Boo-ts and ghoul-oshes !

Lastly, to end this tribute to our translucent friends, I leave you with this ghost song

Love the jokes! I'll be sharing them with my kids :)

I honestly don't know if I believe in ghosts or not. I think sometimes they just might be real.

Yes I do, the ultimate skeptic that I am. Mainly because I can see and hear them. What a wonderful shock they are sometimes.

I'd love to say no but I think I do...Before we married, I remember waking up in my boyfriend's apt., hearing him talking to someone/something I couldn't see. When I asked him who he was talking to, he answered, "Can't you see them on the stairs and in the window? They don't want to hurt us. They like us."

Oops, accidentally erased my comment. Take two:

This one was a cute one. I love the Ghost Hunters. There's another one that's very similar, called Paranormal State, that I also like, but it's not as good. It's a bit over the top, and the production is ridiculous. They add all these creepy noises and warp the images on the screen to make them look eerie, and it makes it so you can't trust anything. Also, they don't go in trying to disprove the way the GHs do, so everything is suspect. But it's still good creeptastic fun to watch. I did my Spotlight On: Ghosts a couple weeks ago, but I think I am today's is going to be about haunted houses, which is also ghost-like.
And I would say I am skeptical, but we all have our ghost stories, don't we...

I'm a born skeptic so I'm not sure what I think about ghosts.I would need to see one to believe in one I suppose.

The_Book_Queen said...

You know, I can't say I outright believe, but I wouldn't say that I'm a non-believer either. I'm somewhere in the middle, and I would need to see one to say for sure, but let's just say I don't think they're mythical beings or anything. :D

Can't have ghosts without good ol' Casper the friendly ghost though! *Wink*

Enjoy,

I love the ghost jokes! I would also like to add Paranormal Activity to your list of films since it's all everyone is talking about right now. :)

I'm kind of indifferent on ghosts. I don't know if they exist or not, but I'm open to the idea.

Great post.

I do believe in ghosts. And I think they are sadly under-represented in books compared to vampires and shifters. Its cool to see some new ones coming out.

Good post & jokes, I really enjoyed this :)
Well, in answer to your question: While I don't really understand WHAT a 'ghost' is and how all that works (yeah, I'm always trying to figure out the reasons and mechanics of things lol)... I DO believe in ghosts, yes.

One time when I was fully awake and occupied at my job, I had something ghostly happen. The store was closed, lights off, I was alone (BTW that doesn't bother me in the slightest)and running the end of day report. I was lounging behind the counter on the floor since the stupid report took about 12 minutes to print out. I had, right there by me, my CD player cranking out Led Zepplin. Nothing spooky THERE haha.

ANYWAY, I hear a group of giggling, laughing kids come in through the front doors, just on the other side of the counter where I was reclining. I'm thinking CRAP!! Immediately I shut off the CD, and got up off the floor to tell the little stinkers we were closed and they had to vamoose. As I am getting up I even see one of the kids, just above counter height - blonde head - go past the counter.

When I stood up - WOW did it hit me like a ton of bricks. The eerie silence and NO ONE WAS THERE. At all. There was no other way to exit the store but to go past where I stood. And everything was (no pun intended lol) as still as death. It was very unnerving.

I found out later from our store manager that she, as well as others, had also heard the 'giggling kids', but I was the first to actually 'see' one of them.

Brrrr.....

Yes...well, in a sense. I don't think they're as...mortal as we make them, and I don't think we can see them.

Ooh, I love the show The Ghost Whisperer! I started it late, though, so I never watched the very beginning, but now it's awesome! I really love it ;)

Oh and thanks for the ghost book suggestions! I'm planning on reading them since it's almost halloween ;)

Not really. I think I'm one of those that need to see it to believe it. So, if I ever encounter a ghost myself, I'll definitely be changing my mind.

Yes, I do. After visiting an old plantation home that was reportedly haunted I have been a believer ever since. That place was spooky.

You know, I've never really had a firm belief one way or the other as far as whether or not ghosts exist. However I kind of get the feeling that they do.

I'm not sure if I believe in ghosts, but I think it's possible that they exist. I've seen and heard some pretty convincing evidence and stories, so I'm inclined to believe that ghosts, or something else paranormal, is out there.
