SpookTober at Ellz Readz

In the spirit of Halloween, each Sunday I will do an new post on the things that go bump in the night.  So this weeks SpookTober feature will be about WIZARDS & WITCHES!

My earliest recollection of witches was Bewitched (1964).  From the first episode, I wanted Samantha Stevens'  power of twitching my nose to make magical things happen.  I am still working on the twitching  part, but my fascination with witches never ended.
Here is a clip I found.  Bring back any memories?

The paranormal genre on television continued through the years with shows such as Charmed, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and ABC's newest Witch Show, Eastwick.

Witches on the Big Screen.
There are far too many to name so here are a few favorites to add to your rental list.
1. The Blair Witch Project
2. The Wizard of Oz
3 The Witches of Eastwick
4. The Craft
5. of course, Harry Potter-all of them

Witches in Books.
Haven't read these yet, get your list out!
1. Kim Harrison Hollows series
2. Kimberly Frost Southern Witch Series  (click here to see my review)

3. Kelly Armstrong Dime Store Magic
4. Carolyn MacCullough Once A Witch
5. Linda Wisdom 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover
Just to name a few!

To end this tribute I leave you with a poem by William Shakespeare:

The Witches Caldron

"Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog"
"Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing"

"For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and babble"

"Double, double, toil and trouble,
Fire burn, and caldron bubble"

William Shakespeare

This will count as an entry into Misty's Helluva Halloween contest.  Have you entered yet?

Who is your favorite witch from either books, television or movies?

Hi Eliz :) Okay, since I grew up with the original Bewitched TV series, I'd have to go with Samantha on Bewitched (although Darrin was such a drag, and I often wanted her to 'twitch' him into the farthest galaxy for eternity LOL

Now, her mom Endora totally rocked !~!

I'm a fan of the TV show Charmed, although when I was younger I liked Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Ooh, I think magic themed novels in general were my first introduction to the reading bug. :D I blame it on all the witch and magical stories and books my grandmother used to read to me as a child! :D

Great contest, can't wait to know what the two prize books are... :D

I <3 Bewitched :)

My favorite witch related movie is Practical Magic. I like to watch it every year around Halloween. It's a great book too.

Tales of Whimsy said...

I also love Halloweentown, The Worst Witch (1986), and Hocus Pocus.

This is the weirdest coincidence, I am working on my Spotlight On: Witches right now (and obviously I got sidetracked. Which explains why I am so behind in my spotlights). But you have to add Hocus Pocus to the list!
I am going to link to this in my spotlight. I think I'm going to mention your giveaway, too. :)

Samantha was also my first witch so she'll always have a special place in my heart but I love Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison's series, she is so complex and then there's Kimberly Frost's new Southern witch series with Tammy Jo. Now that's a seriously fun series I just can't get enough of.

Love the poem from Shakespeare. :)

Bewitched was great. I am also one of the few who liked the recent movie remake as well. Harry Potter witches are also awesome. And from books I like Rachel from The Hollows.

Growing uo, every year my mom read me the book The Little Leftover Witch. I now read it to my girls, it isnt in great of shape but it is no longer in print. The witch's name is Felina. It's an adorable story that I hope will continue to get passed down from generation to generation!

I agree about the witches from The Wizard of Oz. Both my memory of a beautiful witch with a pretty dress (that's what i remember as a little girl) to the mean mean wicked witch that I ran and hid from!

In Finland, we have this children's show called Moomins (it is based on books written by Finnish author but the TV show is made in Japan) and there is this witch in that show. She must be my favorite witch. She is trying to be mean but she just cannot do it because really she is nice.
